Residential Treatment Center
The service delivery system at Little Flower is guided by the understanding that our young people have experienced multiple traumas that strongly influence their behaviors.
The Residential Treatment Center on the campus at Wading River is designed as a therapeutic community based on the belief that a “healthy community” helps people to heal.
The integrated interdisciplinary treatment team, consisting of social workers, mental health staff, childcare staff, educators, medical professionals and a recreation therapist, formulates individualized treatment plans that address the specific needs of each young person.
Youth are referred from Nassau and Suffolk Counties as well as New York City. Generalized Characteristics of our youth include:
- Highly traumatized
- Limited ability to emotionally regulate
- Poor social skills
- Verbally aggressive
- Physically aggressive
- Specialized treatment needs (grief and loss; substance abuse; family therapy)
The young people reside in one of seven modern cottages, each featuring individual rooms, spacious common areas, a large dining room and kitchen.
Clinical and mental health services are conducted by caseworkers, mental health staff and treatment teams and can include substance abuse services, family therapy and milieu therapy. Other services offered are 16 hour infirmary coverage daily, medication administration, routine medical treatment, and liaison with local providers for all necessary medical and dental needs.
Recreational Programming includes the Conway Recreation Center, outdoor basketball and handball courts, athletic fields, and an outdoor swimming pool; off-campus recreation; volunteer services and community involvement; and religious services and access to the campus chapel.
